We love seeing exciting inventions designed to keep cyclists safer on our roads.

23-year-old Ibrahim Cam, final-year Industrial Design and Technology student at Brunel University London has created Laser Lane.

“I saw drivers overtaking cyclists around corners and not giving them the 1.5m that’s required. Many drivers don’t respect the 1.5m rule, and the wind of a vehicle alone can be detrimental.”

Ibrahim Cam
Laser Lane

Two lights that are inserted into your handlebars project two lines onto the road indicating the safe space a cyclist requires and the length of your bicycle. They increase the visibility of the rider with front and rear lights and include touch-activated indicators for making turns.

London to Paris Cycling Route https://www.moreadventure.co.uk/london-to-paris-cycling-route/ https://www.moreadventure.co.uk/london-to-paris-cycling-route/#respond Thu, 25 Feb 2021 11:46:53 +0000 http://www.moreadventure.co.uk/?p=6211 An overview of London to Paris Cycling Routes.

The post London to Paris Cycling Route appeared first on More Adventure.

]]>
Choosing a route to cycle from London to Paris can be a daunting prospect, particularly when there are the added logistical elements of how you’re going to cross the channel, cycling in a new country with different road rules and finding suitable accommodation along the way. Many people begin with a Google search or checking out Strava. This can be a risky business though because the route you find may be completely unsuitable and sometimes, untested.

Having organised countless London to Paris bike rides over the years, we’ve explored many different routes and definitely have our favourites. If you’re organising your own ride however, here’s an overview of some of the routes you could consider. Bear in mind that the mileage on each day are estimates depending on where you’re planning on sleeping and where the start and end point are located.

London to Paris Cycling Route

1. 226 miles, 3 days riding via Portsmouth. Going via Portsmouth on the overnight ferry to Le Havre looks like this:

Day 1: London to Portsmouth (83 miles)

Day 2: Le Havre to Vernon (89 miles)

Day 3: Vernon to Paris (54+ miles)

This is a pleasant route and riders tend to love the overnight ferry aspect of the journey. The mileages are however a little on the longer side per day.

London to Paris Cycling Route – The Eiffel Tower

2. 200 miles, 2-3 days riding via Newhaven. It is also possible to ride to Newhaven, get an overnight ferry to Dieppe then ride from here to Paris. This is the route that many attempting to complete the ride in 24 hours take. The itinerary looks like this:

Day 1: London to Newhaven (80 miles); board a ferry to Dieppe

Day 2: Dieppe to Paris (120+ miles)

As mentioned, the ferry from Newhaven leaves at 11pm and arrives into Dieppe at 4am which means very little sleep for the riders and, at that time of year, a fair amount of cycling in the dark. It is of course possible to split the second day into two more manageable chunks, stopping at Beauvais en route (next route).

3. 220 miles, 3 days riding via Newhaven

Day 1: London to Newhaven (80 miles); board a ferry to Dieppe

Day 2: Dieppe to Beauvais (75 miles)

Day 3: Beauvais to Paris (65 miles)

This is a pleasant route though it will mean lack of sleep on the first night due to the ferry timings from Newhaven to Dieppe.

London to Paris Cycling Route
London to Paris Cycling Route – Arras

4. 275 miles, 4 days riding via Calais

Our most popular London to Paris route is via Calais is four days riding an average of 75 miles a day.

It is possible to reduce to three days by combining the riding days in France to two riding days of 105 miles, but in our opinion it’s better to take it slower and enjoy the wonderful French countryside:

Day 1: Join tour in London, cycle to Calais (77 + 4 miles)
Day 2: Calais to Arras (74 miles)
Day 3: Arras to Compiègne (76 miles)
Day 4: Compiègne to Paris (58 miles)

The Pyrenees Coast to Coast Cycle is a fantastic route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. Over the course of a week, riders experience some of the most famous passes in the world – the Col du Tourmalet (2115m), Col d’Aubisque (1709m), Col d’Aspin (1489m) and Col de Portet de Aspet (1069m), all of which have been immortalised by the Tour de France.

Here’s what Richard had to say after completing this epic challenge:

“Do you know what, it was a lifetime experience, something I could never imagine completing. I went into it with lots of apprehension, but the euphoria of finishing with a group that’s turned into a team has been absolutely splendid. More Adventure have looked after us for the whole trip and we couldn’t thank you more, so well done to you and the team”

The 8 day itinerary begins on the Atlantic Coast in the town of Hendaye. From here we enter the foothills of the Pyrenees, each day tackling some of the most iconic climbs in the world. On the final day we descend from the Col de Jau to the sea at Collioure, a Mediterranean jewel and the end point of the Pyrenees Coast to Coast.

We’ve droned on about #Sardinia as a #cyclingdestination for a few years now. We hope that some people are listening – check out this 30 mile ride by Tom.

He took to the roads southwest of Cagliari this afternoon, starting with a beautiful climb up from sea level to Nuraxi de Mesu. From here the circular route reached the coast on the famous SP71, with sweeping coves, turquoise water and picture perfect white sandy beaches.

“There were very few cars throughout and the temperature was perfect for the ride. It was difficult not to stop at every turn for a photo!”.

So what are you waiting for?

Cycling the Col Du Vars & Col D’Izoard in one day is an incredible route through the French Alps. Starting at the pretty town of Barcelonette, the route begins gently, weaving through steep sided valleys into the heart of the mountains.

Here’s a video of the ride from our friends at Relive.

Relive ‘Col du Vars & Col D’Izoard…what a tremendous ride!!!’

This ride is featured on Day 4 of our mighty Ventoux to Alpe D’Huez ride, an incredible six-day journey through the French Alps that ticks off many climbs of this region.

After descending from the Col Du Vars to Guillestre, you pass through a fabulous gorge following the river Guil as we approach the beginning of our second climb, Col d’Izoard. The gradient is similar to Col du Vars but the summit is over two-hundred metres higher.

The final section of the D’Izoard passes through the dramatic scenery of the Casse Deserte, an other-worldly lunar landscape that adds to the feeling of scale on this brilliant climb.

From the summit of Col D’Izoard you descend through wide valleys to the lovely town of Briancon, the perfect place to end an epic route through the French Alps.

For further information about this amazing route or our Ventoux to Alpe D’Huez ride, please get in touch.

So here’s the big news…

After several years of almost exclusively running cycling events, we’ve decided that we’re going to also offer trekking and mountaineering trips too! We’re currently designing several trips throughout the UK and beyond, from the wilds of Wales, to the picturesque Picos of Northern Spain, to the magnificent Himalayas.

You may be interested to learn that trekking and mountaineering trips were where More Adventure began, and our roots are firmly planted in mountainous adventures on two feet!

This is not to say that we’ll be stopping cycling trips, far from it! We’re constantly updated and expanding our range of cycling trips and have some super-exciting new destinations on two wheels too!

So if you’ve ever dreamed of trekking through the Scottish wilderness or climbing Mont Blanc, watch this space or get in touch.
